Friday: Player Spotlight

Christian Walker 3B/1B, freshman, The University of South Carolina

Christian Walker first came to ASBA when he was 12 years old. He participated in lessons, programs, camps, showcases and travel teams. He had a tough decision to make after being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2009 Major League Baseball 1st Year Player Draft.

Should he pursue his childhood dream of playing professional baseball or join the gamecocks and test his skills against the best college baseball players in the country?

The opportunity to play in Omaha for a National Championship was too much to turn down.  Christian, now a freshman at the University of South Carolina has the Gamecocks knocking on the door for a great post season run. The Gamecocks are currently ranked 8th in latest Baseball America Poll. With two SEC conference weekends remaining on their schedule against Arkansas and Florida, both ranked in the top 10 his season is far from over. Looming after the final 2 conference series is the SEC Tournament in Hoover, AL. Following the tournament are the NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals.

We have been following Christian’s progress this year and he is putting up amazing numbers for a freshman in the SEC. He started the year at third base and has since moved to first base. See below for Christian’s seasons statistics.
